Which other Koi made it so difficult for the Grand Champion today?!
As we wrote in the previous news item, today was a neck-and-neck race at the Ryutsu Center. The jury had a very difficult time with it, we heard from various insiders. But which Koi made the heart of many a jury member beat faster, but still just lost out to the Kohaku of Dainichi Toyota?
This turned out to be the, also perfect, Kohaku from Sakai Fish Farm (SFF). What struck us in particular about this fish is the perfect build, great solid head and the appearance… A Kohaku with attitude! Unfortunately, the skin quality was just a little less during the inspection, so I understand the jury’s final choice. This Kohaku can therefore call himself Jumbo Champion, the runner-up or number two of the show. Not to be confused with the Jumbo title for the largest Koi at the show as we know it in the Netherlands.

This Koi is certainly no stranger to us and won the Grand Champion title at the Rinyukai All Japan Nishikigoi Show last year. With her 94 centimeters competing in the 90bu class certainly also a “heavyweight”! Serious competition for the title and unfortunately for the owner Felix Denanta, this Koi received just too few votes for the highest step on the podium…

A somewhat reassuring thought for him will be that it is already becoming a trend that the Jumbo Champion of one year, often the next…. right… a step higher is allowed!
It is of course too early to say that this great three-step will be the champion of 2017, but if Ryuki Narita (the handler of the Koi) can take the Koi to an even higher level, perhaps the tradition can be continued!
