In memoriam: Patrick Clignet 1969 – 2025
Yesterday we received the sad news that Patrick Clignet, founder and owner of DVS Filtertechniek, suddenly passed away at the age of 56. The good-humored entrepreneur took a prominent position within the Koi hobby by positioning himself as a recognizable and reliable brand and wholesaler for Koi dealers with his production of drum and combination solutions. He was not only active behind the scenes, but was at the forefront of the stand at Koi shows himself for a chat. So too during the last Holland Koi Show in August, where we spoke to him.
We wish his next of kin much strength in coping with this sudden loss
Comments Off on Death of Patrick Clignet
His passing comes as a blow to many who knew him, especially those who knew him as a healthy, energetic man. Comments such as “Way too young,” “Terrible” and “I’m quiet about it” speak volumes about the shock within the Koi community. Koi dealers and others involved are sharing their condolences en masse via WhatsApp groups and social media. We wish his relatives much strength in coping with this sudden loss.
Patrick Clignet founded DVS Filtertechniek on Feb. 28, 2013. The company, specializing in filter systems for ponds and pools, quickly grew into a trusted name within the industry. Patrick was known for his dedication to quality and innovation. He invested in multiple CNC machines to ensure precision in production and recently added a third machine to meet growing demand. DVS Filter Technology is committed to customization for each customer and manufactures as many plant components as possible in-house, ensuring consistently high quality.

Personal involvement of Patrick Clignet
In June 2022, DVS Filtertechniek opened a new location at Wiebachstraat 41 on the Rodaboulevard in Kerkrade. This move to larger premises was necessary due to the growth of the company and offered advantages such as a convenient location in relation to the German and Belgian markets. Among those present at the opening were Patrick Clignet, Alderman Alexander Geers and Jeroen Bours. Patrick’s personal involvement and service were highly appreciated by customers. He often offered personal advice and support for technical questions.
Within the Koi community, appreciation for Patrick was high. Dealers such as Arjan Bremer of AB Koi and John de Leur of Weskoi expressed their sympathy. The disbelief within the Koi community is great, including the NVN board and others who spoke to him recently. He also supported initiatives in the Koi world such as a Koi Show as a sponsor on behalf of DVS with some regularity; the community was important to him. Patrick was previously interviewed for the NVN‘s Magazine KOI in 2017 by Toen Feyen, which appeared as a two-part series in Koi no: 131 and 132.
Patrick II
This is evident when we cite Patrick’s love of carnival in addition to his passion for the Koi world. In 2017, he was prince carnival at C.V. De Zoefülle, where he was known as Patrick II. In this role, he exuded his signature enthusiasm and humor, which endeared him to many. Patrick was also particularly proud of his daughter Angelica, who plays for M17 of the Maastricht soccer club MVV. His pride in her achievements showed how important family was to him.

A year ago, Patrick traveled to the Philippines, an experience that brought him much perspective. He shared his musings on Facebook, where he talked about the value of kindness and helpfulness. He recounted an encounter with a cab driver who, after a tornado in which only the roof of his house was left standing, simply said, “I had a romantic candlelight dinner with my wife every night.” Patrick concluded his message by saying, “Just love alone is enough.”
These words are perhaps the most fitting way to end this in memoriam as well. Patrick Clignet leaves behind a legacy of love, innovation and a big heart. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
