The best Koi in any size
Yes indeed; we have them; the best in sizes. Okay fair enough. Some of the best in sizes also had a best in Variety or Major, but no matter. We already had a message via Messenger from a delighted hobbyist who is not in the other award category and was maximally delighted that we managed to take a picture of this Koi and let’s be honest; that alone is worth it! I do not want to create expectations because anyone who has ever stood at a show barrel to take really good pictures of Koi knows how difficult it is and sometimes nothing works and sometimes it works. Enjoy the Best in Sizes at the European Koi Show 2025 in Oldenzaal! Photos by Sem & Tiebo Jacobs.
Best in size 1 Gin Rin Goshiki – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Jip Geerlings

Such a cool Goshiki this little rascal. Size is of course a crime to photograph and in most cases we bowl the smallest fish. Nevertheless, we gave it a try with this barrel and managed to capture the five-colored diamond also in the show barrel. We congratulate Jip Geerlings on achieving this fine appreciation for an even more beautiful Koi.

Best in size 2 Gin Rin Shiro Utsuri – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Birgitte and Torben
To this Koi we have already made some words dirty since it was also Young Champion , but that does not mean she is not worth a few more. The Ginrin is formidable, just like the size 1. I don’t know what it is, but you really see the quality of the Ginrin increasing drastically over the last few years across all varieties actually. Years ago it was really hard to find really good ginrin Koi; especially a one-color Koi once, but nowadays we see it more and more in other varieties as well and the great thing is that the colors are not inferior. This was also much harder to find before.

Best in size 3 KinGinRin A Kohaku – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Interkoi Ameide

It stands out hey; another Kinginrin; unbelievable. Now a Kohaku Although slightly less visible, this Kohaku is thus the best in its size, regardless of which variety. Yes the Kinginrin is gaining ground. Of course this Kohaku is also a beautiful traditional three-step sacrificewijl Sandan Kohaku. Love to see it!

Best in Size 4 – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Bert-Jan and Jacqueline van ‘t Hul

I was on the other side of the barrel when Jacqueline van’t Hul received the Best in Size award for her Kinginrin Kohaku. There was no sticker next to it, but on the jury list of results I received from the organization it was written that this Koi had received the award. And not without merit. I personally think this one is perhaps one of the best in the row in terms of head and body structure; nicely broad and flowing; again excellent Kinrin and an attractive pattern. big enough for the future!

Best in Size 5 Sanke – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Bram & Mark Bijvank

Cool fish this one; the first non Kinginrin and a Sanke; whoohoe. Sanke is difficult the experts know, but the men Bijvank know how to handle it. In size 5 it is this intriguingly drawn tricolor that takes the title for best Koi in size 5. The colors are intense and the sumi tight. The maruzome Kiwa also pleases the eye. Very nice Koi in a very nice size. The class of this Koi in its variety also was recently highlighted at the All European online Koi Show by winning the award for Best in variety Sanke.

Best in Size 6 – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Rob van der Hulst

A classic of a three-step; robust, shining with simplicity; streamlined body, modest presentation and charming appearance. Does Andre know how to grow this Koi up further and make it really wide then you are going to be shocked by this two-tone. A very fine champion; one of those quiet powerful Koi that more than deserves the prize and that you may not really be surprised by at this point, but make no mistake….

Best in Size 7 Kohaku – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Freddy

A beautiful Kohaku in this size with a velvet look and beautiful flowing build and true kiwa. So beautifully aligned and yet also not perfect, but perhaps perfect for this very reason. Also, the odome on this Kohaku is really good. But pay close attention to this build. The head is nicely shaped, long enough and a nice line to the widest point behind the head. From there you may follow the line on both sides. Really nice massiveness, no collapse or imperfection anywhere, just really super good and that is what makes the Kohaku after all, especially with such a dominant pattern. Freddy should be particularly proud of this Kohaku and it shows that this Koi is really kept under good conditions.

Best in Size 8 Kohaku – European Koi Show 2025
Owner: Raymond Woerts

Surely the final award of this show was Raymond Woerts’ Kohaku. Surely this Koi was the big moral winner of the Show as well. Not only was it the most awarded Koi of the Show with the Mature Champion, Best in Size and Best in Variety (the only Koi to take all three), especially with the story that she missed out on everything last year due to a carp pox makes it a proud victory for Raymond. The recognition is right, deserved and granted!

With this series we have come to the end of all champions of the Euregio Koi Show 2025. We showed you all Major Awards, all Best in varieties and all Best in Sizes of 2025. But still that does not mean that this is also the end. In fact, during the show I photographed some other Koi that I myself found interesting enough to portray for whatever reason. This could be because of rarity, quality or remarkability. And those I would also like to share with you soon.
