Filip Poppe grabs Grand Champion<\/abbr> ZNA BKS 2023<\/h2>\n

The Grand Champion<\/abbr> of the ZNA Belgian Koi Show is a well-known kohaku<\/abbr>. It is a four-step kohaku<\/abbr>, also called yondan<\/abbr> kohaku<\/abbr>. It is much appreciated to have such a nice step pattern on a Koi. A Kohaku<\/abbr> obviously has two colors, white and red, which makes it easier to judge, but if there are flaws or little things that are not quite correct, these also stand out.<\/p>\n

I don’t think any other fish has ever won so many titles<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However, they were not to be found. This fish comes from the Sakai Fish Farm<\/abbr> and the bloodline is Magnum. This fish won its tenth Grand Champion<\/abbr> title in Europe in Affligem. I don’t think any other fish has ever won so many titles, not in Holland, not in Europe, not in England and not even in Japan. The fish is now 11 years old and is in its 12th year.<\/p>\n

In 2016, the hobbyist brought the Kohaku<\/abbr> to Germany as a big surprise. She was already the center of admiration there, but did not manage to capture a major trophy; in the same year she did win the Mature Award at the Belgian Koi Show. A year later, she managed to capture the Supreme Champion<\/abbr> title in Kalkar.<\/a> Then she proved unstoppable and with the latest win she has 10 Grand Champion<\/abbr> titles; something no other Koi has ever accomplished. The reason this fish won the Grand Champion<\/abbr> title is because Belgian hobbyist Filip Poppe is still able to present this fish at this age in this form at the koi show.<\/p>\n

So not because there is a lack of competition, but rather an overwhelming field of participants with many great Kohaku<\/abbr>, Sanke<\/abbr>, Showa<\/abbr>, too, that have already won in Japan. And yet Filip Poppe manages to prolong the Grand Champion<\/abbr> title with his Kohaku<\/abbr>. Why? Because he does manage to bring his fish, not being the biggest, back to the Belgian Koi Show in a more than formidable condition. Pure white, no blemishes in the beni<\/abbr> and a magnificent body actually just.<\/p>\n

Looking at the body; beautiful, but the body of the other fish in the competition is also impressive. Had this fish been put in a condition of less than 95 percent, it would not have won the title.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is simply no more to get out of this fish. He really makes the most of it. And I’ll say it again, the fish has now been 11 years. The body is more than impressive. The Koi has also been even wider before, but at that time the Koi was just too wide for my personal taste, but now she is just perfectly massive. In doing so, she honors the genes of her grandmother, the true Dynamite Ochiba. This one was a whopping 107cm. Another fish may be bigger and longer and of course that counts, but Miss Magnum is simply in the best shape she can be in and that too counts.<\/p>\n

Yondan<\/abbr> Kohaku<\/abbr><\/h4>\n

Yes, it is of course a 4 stepper, something that is actually also very highly regarded by the judges. It is a very balanced pattern, natural and all the sashi<\/abbr> and kiwa<\/abbr> is simply tight. Where the Kohaku<\/abbr> also scores is the odome<\/abbr>. The last red pattern, Then are there no errors in it at all? Yep, the fish is not perfect, you’re a very small bit of red pigment loose from the pattern, but then you really have to look and again; the fish is already in its 12th year of life.<\/p>\n

It’s indoors and the light is mostly yellow, but you can just see that the white is very good. It’s just excellent. White is not pigment, but flour more the cell structure multiplied by the skin quality, as these together determine the reflection of the skin. Again, it is skin quality that prevails.<\/p>\n
