“They got our fish”
“…um yes… that one is gone”
BLOOMINGTON (USA) – The lives of Lisa Greeny and her husband were suddenly rocked when they were confronted with an unusual crime – theft of their precious koi. However, the perpetrators were surprised by the unexpected heroism of their lively pets, resulting in an event that was as astonishing as it was ridiculous.
Two days after Lisa and her husband noticed that some of their bins had disappeared from their place, they decided to take safety measures. They installed video cameras around their pond, unwittingly preparing for what would turn into an unlikely story. That same week on a Thursday night, the cameras recorded something remarkable. A man appeared at their pond and started catching a koi. Not just any koi, but “Homer,” a striking yellow and white metallic koi worth about $2500.
Check out the video:
The cameras caught the whole scene, with the koi fiercely resisting the unlawful attempt to abduct him and put him in their pick-up. The owners, Lisa and her husband, were shocked and outraged by the brazen theft attempt. “We just wanted our fish back!”
It is just ridiculous that people think they have the right to steal our pets from their own habitat, whether for their own use or to resell.
The thieves were intercepted with the stolen koi in their car
However, the story took a surprising turn when the police acted quickly based on the video footage. Within minutes, a 66-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, who was driving the getaway car, were apprehended. The thieves were intercepted with the stolen koi in their car. Homer suffered damage during the fischnapping and lost some of his colour due to the stress, but is generally in good health and recovering.
Although the thief’s motives are still unclear, Lisa suggests that the man had simply developed an unfounded fascination with the koi. “It’s mind-boggling that someone would do such a thing,” Lisa said. “We are relieved to have Homer back safely and grateful for the cameras that helped us solve this case.”
The koi community shows united in outrage at this unusual event and celebrates Homer’s intransigence. For Lisa and her husband, Homer’s theft is a painful reminder of the need to protect precious pets, even in their own habitat.
