Protective home for beneficial bacteria
The Water Cleanser is a waxy block that acts as a protective ‘home’ for naturally occurring beneficial bacteria. These are ‘started up’ by the Water Cleanser adding a missing nutrient: Carbon. The beneficial bacteria multiply, making them more effective faster.

Where to place a Water Cleanser?
A moving bed module is an excellent place for the Water Cleanser; as this is where the important (nitrifying) bacteria, which break down ammonium and nitrite, are located. A drum filter is often used before the moving bed filter. The ‘disadvantage’ of a drum filter is that in practice, however, they provide too little dirt (read carbon) for the bacteria, as they sometimes filter too finely. The Water Cleanser thus provides an important carbon source to the bacteria here.
