Miss Dynamite is a Kohaku from the Sakai Fish Farm
In the heart of Affligem, the Belgian ZNA Koi Show is taking place this weekend, an event that every self-respecting koi enthusiast had circled in red in their calendar. The show attracts the crème de la crème of the koi world, but one particular fish managed to stand out above all others: a beautiful Kohaku, bred by Sakai Fish Farm, and proudly owned by Belgian hobbyist Pascal Vandercammen of Gooik.
Pascal’s Kohaku is not just any fish. With a massive build approaching perfection in proportion and a Beni (red pattern) so thick on the skin you would almost think you could scrape it off, this champion has earned his place at the top. In the hard-fought arena of European koi shows, where every scale counts, this Kohaku made an indelible impression.
Each champion will have their own stage in these specially decorated vats
A new touch to the show was the introduction of the so-called Champion barrels, a practice adopted from Japan, which can certainly be seen as an enhancement to the event. These vessels make it easier for visitors and photographers to admire the winning koi without having to wriggle through crowds. Each champion will have their own stage in these specially decorated vats, centrally located and easily accessible.
First impressions of the show are overwhelmingly positive: the organization is flawless, the setting is inviting and the koi swim around happily, no doubt also pleased with the extra attention they receive from the many admirers. This is just a taste of things to come, but one thing is certain: the European ZNA Koi Show in Affligem has raised the bar yet again. Keep following us for more updates on this spectacular fish and other highlights of the show!
