Particularly stable development Grand Champion Kohaku Tamaura
The fourth edition of Koi Show Westland in Naaldwijk was won by Rick Veldhoven. Rick has been hobbyist for many years and has a beautiful covered pond with lots of light. Good conditions for a Koi to grow up you would say; and it shows. The Koi is now in its fifth growing season and measures approximately 78cm.

The Grand Champion title comes to the credit of a Kohaku. The Koi was bred by Tamaura. It is the first time that a Koi from this southern breeder holds the highest podium in the Netherlands and perhaps in Europe. We asked John de Leur of Chikarakoi selected the Koi as nisai in Japan. We asked him about Tamaura:
"Tamaura belongs to my favorite breeders. Father mother and son run the farm in an old-fashioned way. There is always very high quality fish available. They breed mainly go-sanke and they also grow big. It is important to select the right body type. For example, there is a type that has no body on it, but it grows long and big."
John De Leur, apetrically proud, also sends us a picture of the Koi as nisai. What strikes us is the tremendous stability of this fish. The pattern is also not really uncertain or exciting, but by stable I mean the proportions of the build and even the sashi is still almost the same. Enough indication that the Koi really can still get a little better. This one isn't finished yet.

The hobbyist himself is also as proud as a Kujaku (peacock). In addition to Grand Champion, he also won the Tategoi award with a Koi that was also nisai was selected; this time a Showa. Furthermore, he received two more best in varieties. For the dealer Chikarakoi this means after Arcen a second Grand champion title for their customers!
The organizers call the conduct of their Koi show bizarre; this because of the rain that fell;
So was bad weather the common thread running through the Show?Well, no. Absolutely not.For that was the optimal atmosphere. The mood.That one was downright awesome.Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't hear a single whimper. Everyone was cozily crowded around the booths and catering.One had a nice sandwich in one hand and a cup of coffee or other beverage in the other.Of course it was all about the Koi.Around the barrels between showers, people were always admiring the fish they brought.Therefore, in our experience, it was certainly a successful Koi show.
