10 + 1 reasons to schedule your Koi course at Koi Academy now
Start your year well with a course from Koi-Academy.nl
Knowledge acquisition is the most important investment you can make for yourself and the hobby. In this article we give you 10 good reasons to plan your Koi course now at www.koi-academy.nl.
1. It is great fun
With a group of enthusiastic hobbyists, you form a class for a whole day. Apart from the serious material we go through, there is also enough time for a pleasant chat, and it would not be the first time that friendships for life would arise from this.
2. You are less dependent
Nothing is as bad as when there is something wrong with your fish and you don't know how to deal with it. When you call someone, they can only be at your place in a day or so at the earliest. How nice it is then to be able to do the first actions yourself to rule out or even diagnose things. One or two days can make a big difference to the health of your fish. It will give you less stress because you know what to do.
3. It saves you tons of money.
A Koi course may cost a few pennies, but sooner or later it will save you hundreds of euroson unnecessary medication or because you know what to look out for when buying fish in a certain variety, because you know how to manage your water without constantly adding expensive additives, not to mention when an expensive fish dies through ignorance when in fact it would have been unnecessary. If only you had known a bit more about it.
4. The courses are taught by experienced teachers.
Our Koi courses are taught by experienced teachers who know how to pass on knowledge. Joop van Tol, Marco Zegers, Tiebo Jacobs and some guest teachers with specialisation have been giving courses and workshops for more than ten years and they do so with a lot of enthusiasm and passion. You can also send them a question afterwards.
5. Courses of the highest level.
The teachers are half the battle, but the courses are also so carefully put together, designed to make the best of it stick. Tested and adjusted over the years, and we are still making improvements. Not six different subjects in one afternoon but a good day's worth of content around a single theme with, where possible, both theory and practice. The lessons are interactive and complete with a reference book so that you can review the most important points at home.
6. Curriculum and diploma.
Divided into 7 Koi courses, you can take exams at two levels. The exam takes place once a year centrally and you can become a 'Koi expert' or 'Koi specialist'. In addition to being a confirmation for yourself that you can be proud of, it also offers opportunities when you want to take further steps in the hobby. With these Koi diplomas in your pocket, you can prove that you have a solid level of knowledge when you want to work for a dealer agent or for the Koi and Pond Advisory Service, which uses the diploma as a prerequisite for entry.
7. Get more out of your hobby.
You will find that as you take up the hobby a little longer, you will run into limits to grow further as hobbyist. The courses will offer you those tools to get more insight and fun out of your hobby and also to make smarter choices in your purchases and your hardware around the pond. Not because you've been told something works best, but because you understand the underlying principles and test them on your unique situation. It offers you the foundation to continue to grow and develop your own vision.
8. Accessible.
The Koi courses are designed to be extremely accessible to both beginners and advanced students. We never skip the basics and you will see that fellow students are very helpful. We have students who repeat the courses every three to four years because it is so much fun and always remains instructive.
There is plenty of laughter and in addition to a teacher we also have a class assistant from, for example, the Advisory Group Koi and Pond, so there is plenty of personal attention if you do not quite understand. Even after the course there is still opportunity to ask questions. Our real goal is to help you become a better hobbyist !
9. Discount at KoiCave.
If you are a member of the KoiCave, you will receive a 10 euro discount for each Koi course. Membership of the association costs less than two tenners a year, so you will have earned that back quickly. We find it important to strengthen each other and KoiCave has knowledge sharing as a priority.

10. Tasty lunches.
We always do our best to provide our students with something to eat and drink. A good cup of coffee in the morning and a delicious lunch in the afternoon. We take special dietary requirements into account if indicated and make sure you don't go hungry. Learning on an empty stomach is not possible.
11. Practice.
Yes, we already had 10 but I would like to emphasise one more and that is practice. Apart from the fact that every course day has a bit of practice in it, once a year we also have a real practical day on which several experienced teachers show you and let you experience what it is like to stitch, perform an autopsy on a koi, learn how to handle a koi, learn to recognise parasites under a microscope and much more. A unique day.
